Lockdown has truly proved to be a challenging time, throughout the world thousands of lives have been lost each one destroying families and friends. Two months ago we simply couldn't have imagined what was about to happen. Yet through all this sadness and sorrow some amazing shoots of kindness have sprung up. Daily we have witnessed the care and compassion offered by NHS and Care staff, we have witnessed key members of staff putting themselves at risk to ensure we still have food, waste disposal, transport, medicines posted that our children get an education. Each person willing to put others before themselves.

Every Thursday we stand on our door step and cheer and clap to show our appreciation for all that these wonderful people are doing. Their courage and dedication is an inspiration to us all.

Over the past two weeks we have witnessed Captain Tom as he aimed to walk 100 lengths of his back garden before his 100th birthday. I am sure that even in his wildest dreams he could not have imagined how successful he would be currently raising approx 29 million for the NHS. The nation has been extremely choked at times. We have seen volunteers delivering parcels, schools making face masks, people knitting hearts for patients. Watching these selfless acts have led many including myself to question what they could do to help.

So with this in mind, having reflected on what I was able to do in this current situation I decided I would make a weekly cake to say thank you, and to show that we value all these heroic people are doing for us.

A fortnight ago I created this cake for the postman who never fails deliver our mail with a smile on his face even whist wearing his newly acquired rubber gloves.

This week it was time to thank the North West Ambulance service. I am sure at the moment this must be an extremely difficult job both physically and emotionally yet our paramedics continue to go out to the public daily putting themselves at risk for us. I for one am extremely grateful for all they do and it was a great pleasure to present them with this cake.
So for now whilst this is the best I can do to help I will keep doing it. Tune in next week to see who I chose to thank next.
